Since moving to Birmingham, the thing I’ve missed the most has easily been all of my friends and family back in Texas. So for my birthday, I knew I wanted to plan a trip to catch up with some of my best friends. Luckily, my best friend Olivia’s birthday is the day after mine, so we decided to make a weekend out of it and invite our friends Natalie, Andy, and Ross to join us at our favorite place on earth – Seaside, FL!
We rented the cutest condo in a beach house on the edge of Watercolor, FL. It had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a bunkroom (for me!), a spacious living and dining room, and two porches where we spent most of our time. We all got into town on a rainy Thursday night and went to dinner at Grayton Seafood Co. where we split a flight of local beers, fried calamari, and lots of fried seafood.
Lucky for us, that was the only rain we got for the entire weekend. The next morning, we woke up early, rented bikes, and went to The Black Bear Bread Co. for breakfast. We ordered a delicious spread of bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwiches, croissants, acai bowls, and lots of coffee and juice.
After heading back to the house to pack up our beach bags and coolers, we spent the rest of the day by the ocean. Our condo came with a beach cart and four beach chairs, which we were so thankful for. Olivia got me this adorable otomi beach float as a birthday gift, and Natalie and I blew it up all by ourselves! We also ordered these custom Styrofoam birthday cups that we loved using for drinks all weekend.
To celebrate my birthday that night, we drove out to Rosemary Beach and got drinks and appetizers at Havana Beach Rooftop Lounge. We ordered the smoked tuna dip, barbecue wings, fiesta fries, fish tacos, and pulled pork sliders. It was the perfect amount of food to split between five people. The rooftop was such a cute venue with lots of outdoor lounge seating, fire pits to keep us warm when the sun went down, and delicious summer cocktails. I wore this printed maxi dress from Rent The Runway for the occasion and loved it so much that I wanted to keep it!
The next morning, we biked to Seaside Square and stocked up on the comfiest t-shirts and sweatshirts from The Seaside Style. I’ve been wearing the same turquoise sweatshirt from them for the past five years, and it had more than a few holes in it, so it was definitely time to buy a new one! I grabbed a mini donut from Five Daughters Bakery while everyone else got a cup of coffee, and then we walked around the square as all of the shops were opening up. Since it was a Saturday, there was a farmers market and live music playing all morning long!
We spent the day by the ocean, and then came back up to the square to check out all of the food trucks for lunch. They have everything from sandwiches and barbecue to sno-cones and crepes. Most of us ordered the smoked turkey grilled cheese sandwich from The Meltdown and it was SO good. We couldn’t believe how hungry we were from running around outside all day.
Later that night, we got cleaned up and headed out to Rosemary Beach again to celebrate Olivia’s birthday at Pescado. We ordered some fun cocktails and a delicious seafood spread that we enjoyed while overlooking the water. The menu was a little more upscale than we were expecting, but the ambiance was perfectly casual.
On our last morning in Seaside, Olivia and I wanted to bike around town and look at all of the cute houses. We got brunch at The Great Southern Café and then let ourselves get lost in Seaside proper. We loved searching for the houses with the most clever names and seeing all of the different styles of architecture. Seaside is definitely a place that Olivia and I will come back to year after year. Who knows, maybe someday we’ll have our own summerhouses by the sea.
